Some time ago, I collaborated with the “Jagat Mata” theatre company to add Bosques de mi Mente’s music to their opus called “La maleta de Irati”. The play was performed at the San Juan Evangelista’s Theatre Contest some time ago. As it turned out, I was nominated for the best sound. The award presentation took place past saturday and I WON!!!!!

Hace ya algún tiempo colaboré con la compañía de teatro “Jagat Mata” para añadir la música de Bosques de mi Mente a su obra “La maleta de Irati”. La obra fue interpretada en el Certamen de Teatro San Juan Evangelista hace algún tiempo. Resultó que me nominaron por el mejor sonido. La entrega de premios tuvo lugar el sábado pasado y … ¡¡¡GANE!!!

Here is the prize-winning composer, proud with his award. I would like to thank all the “Jagat Mata” company, specially Rafa, for making this possible. For me, being asked to add my humble music to his work has been a awe-inspiring experience, specially when seeing my music in such a wonderful theatre, movement and dance tour-de-force.

Para el lanzamiento del nuevo disco, “20 de Abril”, pensé que sería interesante tener un plugin que mostrara los días que van quedando para el lanzamiento. Cuando me puse a buscarlo no pude encontrar ninguno que se ajustara a lo que yo quería, de modo que me he creado uno. Lo podéis ver en la barra de la derecha, al final. Planeo ponerlo en el dominio público pronto, y mejorarlo. De momento cumple su función. El plugin se llama “Days Left” (días restantes).

For the release of the new album, “20 de Abril”, I thought that it would be interesting to have a wordpress plugin that would show the remaining days left for the release of the album. As I could not find one I liked, I decided to program one myself. You can see the result in the right sidebar. I am planning on releasing it for the public domain soon, and make some improvements. For the moment, it is doing its work right. The plugin is called “Days Left”.

Parece ser que la música de “Bosques de mi Mente” ha sido nominada a premio en el certamen “San Juan Evangelista”, donde partícipé con la banda sonora de la obra “La Maleta de Irati”… El día 21 es la entrega de premios… pienso ir con pajarita como en los oscars, ¡¡¡y con discurso preparado y todo!!!
The music of “Bosques de mi Mente” has been nominated for the “Best light and sound” award at the “San Juan Evangelista”‘s contest. I added the soundtrack to the work “La Maleta de Irati” (Irati’s suitcase)… I am attending the awards with a bow tie just like at the Oscar’s… and I am writing a speech too!!!

Es muy triste para mí escribir este post. Gracias al aviso de un amigo (gracias Jose) he descubierto que en el último programa de Redes, que se emitió el día 25 de este mes, y que ha sido repuesto hoy por motivo de la huelga, se usa extensamente mi música, hasta el punto de que todo el programa hace uso de mi música a cada interludio. Por supuesto, nadie del programa se puso en contacto conmigo ni me pidió permiso o me avisó de que se iba a hacer ese uso comercial de mi música (que además jamás permitiría), y ni siquiera aparezco en los agradecimientos.
Aparte de las acciones legales que tendré que emprender, me llena de tristeza a nivel personal este tipo de sucesos… me hacen replantearme muchas cosas… siempre he puesto mi música con licencias “Creative Commons” porque he creído en la libre distribución de la cultura, de la música, del arte… es, en cierta manera, creer en el espíritu del ser humano, pero desde luego estos palos me hacen pensar si no debería tomar otro camino, en un mundo donde el poner mi música como yo lo hago no hace a algunos más que pensar “gratis gratis, lo puedo usar sin pagar”… vivimos en un mundo así por desgracia, y me hace plantearme si debo seguir como hasta ahora o quedarme mi música para mí, o venderla…
Os agradecería cualquier apoyo que me pudierais dar, en especial si conocéis algún abogado especializado en derechos de autor o algún abogado de Madrid que pueda aconsejarme… Muchas gracias.

I feel really sad as I write this post. Thanks to the warning of a friend (thank you Jose), I have discovered that the last chapter of “Redes”, a science program here in Spain, that was broadcasted past 25th, made extensive use of my music, to the point of incluying songs from my albums on every interlude. Of course, nobody from the program contacted me or asked me for permission, and I am not even listed in the final credits.
Apart from the legal actions I’m taking, at a personal level I am really sad and touched for this kind of things… they make me reconsider so many things… I have always licensed my music under “Creative Common” licenses because I do REALLY believe in free sharing of culture, music and art… for me it is, in some sense… my way of believeng in mankind, but these blows make me wonder if I should take another path, specially in a world where when you share your music some people understand “this is free, take it TAKE IT TAKE IT!”… that’s the world we live in, unfortunately, and makes me think that maybe I should keep my music for myself… or sell it… or whatever…
I would really thank any support on this… advice, some legal suggestions or possibilities… if you know a lawyer that can help me, I would be grateful…
